Mountain Biking

In 2017, the Natural Resource Department identified the development of mountain bike trails at Heritage Trails County Park as a priority in the “Parks Fiscal Sustainability Plan.” Metro Mountain Bikers is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to sustainable trail riding. Their volunteer staff maintains over 30 miles of trails in the greater Milwaukee area, contributing more than 5,000 hours annually. Metro’s mission is to provide healthy outdoor recreational opportunities for all communities in Southeast Wisconsin by building new mountain bike trails and expanding trail access.

Construction of the mountain bike trails began in late spring/early summer of 2021. Experienced trail builders from MMB led groups of community volunteers in this project.

Metro MTB

“Metro could not be more excited for the opportunity to partner with Washington County Parks. Mountain Biking Recreation is quickly growing across the nation and so many Washington County and Southeast Wisconsin residents are seeking trails and new recreation experiences. Washington County was quick to recognize the need for increased recreation and approached Metro two years ago to begin exploring the build out of trail in Heritage Trails County Park. Here we are today breaking ground and creating something that will really make a statement for all of Wisconsin" said Metro MTB President James Mattox. "These trails are going to be some of the best in the entire state. We will have a little bit of everything for riders of all abilities and skill levels. Deploying the newest trail building techniques and features, we will have single track, flow trail with A and B lines, as well as more progressive Black Diamond areas built into the park with jumps, drops, and features that will challenge even the best of riders. This trail system will draw riders from at least three states away to see what has been built in Washington County! To say we are excited would be an understatement."
