Updated Flood Insurance Rate Map Available for Review:

90 Day Appeal Process Begins 09/27/2024 - Ends 12/26/2024

Flood risk can change over time, and your community’s updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) shows how the flood risk has changed in your area. The Preliminary FIRMs for Washington County, Wisconsin, were released for public review on March 20, 2024. These revised flood hazard maps provide detailed, property-specific flood risk information to help residents, business owners, and community officials better understand their flood risk and make informed decisions about reducing flood risk and purchasing flood insurance. The maps are currently available for review on the FEMA Flood Map Service Center.

The formal 90-day appeal process will begin on 09/27/2024 and will end on 12/26/2024. During the appeal period, property owners and renters will have the opportunity to review and submit formal comments and appeals regarding the map. For details on the appeal process see Appeals and Comments: Information for Property Owners at Fema.gov. or click here.  Submitting an appeal requires some time and effort, so we encourage property owners and lessees to review the preliminary flood maps now. If you want to submit a formal appeal or comment, contact your local zoning administrator.

All appeals and comments must be submitted to your local zoning administrator

Preliminary Floodplain Map Amendments

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is hosting a Flood Risk Open House for property owners regarding Preliminary Floodplain Study Map Amendments.

Open House - May 2, 2024 - 4-7pm at the Washington County Fair Park & Conference Center - Ziegler Building - 3000 CTH PV, West Bend, WI  53095

Impacted property owners should look for a postcard this week inviting them to attend the open house at the Washington County Fair Park. The postcards will indicate if there is a general increase or decrease in the floodplain of a property (blue postcard indicates increase; yellow postcard indicates slight change; green postcard indicates decrease).  The postcards are parcel specific. For property owners that own multiple parcels they will receive a postcard for each parcel.  To view the current and proposed floodplain changes as it relates to your property – click on the Floodplain Change View Map Link below.

At the Open House, representatives from various local, state, and federal agencies will be available to provide the most current information about flood risk, flood insurance, floodplain development regulations, and the process used to map Washington County’s floodplains.
