County Executive Schoemann Announces Tourism Grant Awards
WEST BEND, WI – Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann designated $300,000 in one-time funding for grants to enhance tourism-related activities, promote economic growth, and foster community development. The County Board Executive Committee approved the grant funding at their March 20 meeting via general consensus. The funding source for these grants is under the American Rescue Plan Act. Eligible recipients included organizations in Washington County with a commitment to supporting tourism, arts, culture, or community development.
An advisory group, headed by Supervisor Carroll Merry, met to review applications. The maximum amount for individual awards was $25,000 for a single year, $75,000 for a multi-year grant, or $50,000 for an Infrastructure Enhancement project. Priority was given to cultural events and festivals, with projects or events in seven different municipalities receiving funds.
Supervisor Carroll Merry said, “narrowing down the award winners from 38 worthwhile applications, that totaled more than $1 million, resulted in some tough choices for our group. We’re pleased with the variety of well-deserved projects that were selected that will benefit residents throughout the county.”
County Executive Schoemann said, “these grants will inject enthusiasm in Washington County’s special spaces and events. Visitors and residents alike will enjoy the upgraded experiences at popular local festivals and historic locations.”
