County Executive Schoemann Statement on Potential Release of Violent Sex Offender
WEST BEND, WI – Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis today issued a news release about the potential placement of a violent sex offender from Outagamie County in Washington County. Similar to the county’s efforts with a Chapter 980 placement in Erin in 2023, the County Executive’s Office will continue being transparent about this situation while we work hard to explore all legal options.
County Executive Schoemann said, “The people of Washington County are my priority. While we are responsible to find placement for released sex offenders, this offender is not a citizen of Washington County and therefore should not be our responsibility. My office will fight like hell to keep our citizens safe.”
Washington County is not responsible for placing this individual. An Outagamie County Circuit Court Judge has identified a placement in Washington County that she believes is suitable for the Outagamie County resident under Chapter 980. Our County has no active role in placing this individual, and we have not been consulted or involved in the process.
The Washington County Attorney is exploring all legal avenues at this time to address this matter with the courts.
