Criminal Justice Coordinating Council

The Washington County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) brings together leaders from the courts, law enforcement, human services, and county government to improve coordination and effectiveness across the local justice system. The Council provides a forum for collaborative problem-solving, data-driven decision-making, and implementation of evidence-based practices that enhance public safety and community well-being.

Membership
The CJCC is chaired by Hon. Sandra J. Giernoth and includes representatives from the District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, County Executive’s Office, Health and Human Services, Public Safety, the Department of Corrections, municipal law enforcement, the Clerk of Court, and the County Board

Current Focus Areas

  • Court Security and Funding – Evaluating staffing and resource needs to maintain safe and efficient courthouse operations in accordance with state and national best-practice standards
  • Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) – Working with the Wisconsin Department of Justice to identify opportunities for diversion and early intervention for individuals with behavioral health needs in the justice system
  • CJCC Technical Assistance – Partnering with the Justice Management Institute (JMI) to strengthen the Council’s structure and strategic planning through the national CJCC Technical Assistance Program

Meetings
The CJCC meets quarterly at the Herbert J. Tennies Government Center, 432 E. Washington Street, West Bend, WI 53095. Meetings are open to the public and agendas are posted in accordance with Wisconsin open-meeting law.

  • Reviewing courthouse security staffing and funding models
  • Supporting implementation of mental-health diversion and treatment initiatives
