Washington County Launches Conservation & Heritage Grant Program
WEST BEND, WI – Washington County has officially launched the Conservation & Heritage Grant Program. The program is designed to find a healthy balance between suburban/exurban development, open space preservation, and natural resource conservation including surface water and groundwater quality protection.
“This initiative represents a significant step forward in maintaining the authentic quality of life that makes Washington County special,” said County Executive Josh Schoemann. “By protecting our agricultural lands and water resources, we’re investing in our long-term environmental and economic health.”
The program relies on non-profits or local units of government that buy land or easements to set aside for permanent conservation on productive farmland or open space within Washington County.
The program framework is available here. For full program details and application information, visit: Conservation & Heritage Grant Program website (or https://bit.ly/WashCoConservationHeritageGrants)
The grant period will open October 1, 2025, and close December 31, 2025. Awards will be announced in early 2026. Apply online at: Grant Online Application Portal
