The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the 6th and 7th traffic fatalities of 2022. On Wednesday, June 22 at 5:42 a.m. the Washington County Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 164 and Elmwood Road in the Village of Richfield. One of the callers reported that occupants of a southbound vehicle had severe injuries and were unconscious.

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Richfield Fire Department, responded to the scene. Prior to arrival, additional resources were requested from Lisbon Rescue, Germantown Fire Department, Flight for Life, Wisconsin State Patrol, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office, and Washington County Highway Shop. Upon arrival of the first deputy, it was determined that three vehicles had extensive damage and the vehicle occupants of each vehicle required medical attention.

An initial investigation of the crash showed that a southbound vehicle operated by a 30-year-old Mayville resident and occupied by her one year old son was rear ended by another southbound vehicle. The southbound vehicle was pushed into the northbound lane of traffic and struck by a northbound vehicle. The 30-year-old Mayville resident and her son succumbed to their injuries at the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and no further information will be released at this time. Highway 164 was closed from Highway Q to Highway 167 for approximately 4.5 hours to assist in the crash investigation.
